Published by Senior Services of Snohomish County, the article is part of intense interest in music therapy at the Music Project. During its initial pilot, the “Music as medicine” intiative ran in partnership with Quail Park of Lynnwood, a Memory Care Facility.
The music therapy services provided therein has helped dozens of seniors with individualized music interventions (or therapies). This one-on-one work with Music Therapy Director Karla Hawley, MT-BC, M.Ed., music therapist Victoria Fansler, and interns, has yielded tremendous progress for seniors during the past year. Individual sessions prepare individuals for group therapy, which benefits the residents in unique ways: from vocalization to memory preservation.
