Choirs for seniors and youth will start soon. The senior choir focuses on seniors and their loved ones. The youth choir is designed for both people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and peers, ages 17-22. More importantly, the focus is on creating lasting social experiences, strengthening community, and create a fun, safe space. Sign-ups are now open.
The twelve weekly sessions will be led by a music therapist and interns. Each choir will meet:
- Music YoU-SING Senior Choir (Ages 60+)
- Music YoU-SING Youth Choir (Ages 17-22)
Both choirs are integrated. This means that they include people regardless of most physical or neurological symptoms. The choirs are open to people with diagnoses as broad as ALS, asthma, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s, early dementia, sensory disorders, and intellectual or development disabilities. The choir goals are reducing stress, improving speech, elevating mood, building new friendships, and improving facial & vocal expression. By including others, same-age peers of different backgrounds and ability levels can participate in the choirs, problem solve, and cooperate both verbally and non-verbally.
Sign-ups are due in 2016.
