Music therapy is a powerful tool for increasing the quality of life for many individuals including adults with disabilities. The Music Project partners with the Volunteers of America Western Washington Meaningful Day Program to provide music therapy for adults with disabilities in Everett, WA.
The Meaningful Day Program aims to provide a safe, engaging and rewarding experience to people with development disabilities. The program empowers participants with opportunities to learn, stay active and socialize.
For adults with disabilities, music therapy helps develop self-awareness, social interaction, communication, and self-expression. Music therapists develop therapeutic interventions to best meet the needs of each participant. In turn, the most meaningful experience is possible.
“I have worked with my individual for a few years now,” says Kayla Lowry, a program coordinator with Volunteers of America. “And, I have never seen him so vocal [as he’s usually nonverbal]. During music therapy, he says and points to what instruments he wants to hear. It has really been awesome to see.”
