Music Therapy Internship
The Music Project Internship focuses on the skills an intern needs to continue practicing in this region as well as skills that generalize to other regions the intern may choose to live and work in after the internship. The Internship is unique in its social justice orientation and its focus on systems-informed work with families and community music therapy. Additionally, it is unique in its opportunities for Interns to learn about grant-based work and to develop new programs and sites based on their professional interests. Interns leave the Music Project well prepared to pursue the work they find most personally compelling.
The Internship will include direct service and opportunities for professional presentations, outreach, advocacy, and a special project to be determined collaboratively by the Intern and Internship Director. The project will be based on the Intern’s professional interests and should serve a functional need for the Intern’s entry into the profession. Possible projects include:
development of a program proposal plan for a population of the Intern’s interest
development of a business plan for private practice
development of a music therapy program to be offered in a specific setting
One of the advantages of completing an internship at a community music therapy organization is that we work on a wide variety of projects. This variety allows Interns to explore a variety of areas of interest that will help them when they enter the professional world.
Stipend Available.
Everyone on the Music Project team adds value to our community including interns. Additionally, we recognize that unpaid internships create barriers for many students. Therefore, the Music Project provides a stipend of $10,000 total to interns. Stipends are paid over the course of the internship.

The Music Project seeks Interns with personal awareness of the impacts of privilege and oppression. We aim to disrupt music therapy’s colonial legacy, in which marginalized identities are underrepresented in therapists yet overrepresented in clients.
People of color, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and Disabled applicants are encouraged to apply.
There is no one better to tell you about our internship than the people who lived it!
